v. to use one's teeth to cut or teer

: My husband always bites his nails when he feels nervous.

: I hate it when I bite my tongue.

: I will take a bite.

 

 

 

v. (fish) to eat bait

: We went fishing yesterday, but the fish weren't biting.

: I think something bit my lure

 

 

 

v. to show interest in something, going after and chase something.

: My baby didn't bite her new toys.

: I'll bite. What's your secret.

 

 

 

v. to be bad, to be unappealing

: This lunch bites.

: Your friend bites.

 

 

 

v. come back to bite (somebody)

-> a situation not handled now causes bigger problems in the future

: I didn't put gas in the car last week. Hope that doesn't come back to bite me.

 

 

 

v. bite (someone's) head off

-> quick show of anger even if just for a small reason

: My friends bit my head off for being 10 minutes late.

: He made one small mistake; you don't have to bite his head off.

 

 

 

v. bite the bullet

-> pushed or forced to do something, even if you don't want to do

: I think I have to bite the bullet and do my group projects.

: I didn't know what to do, so I just bit the bullet
